Heating accounts for about 37% of total UK carbon emissions.   The UK is dominated by fossil fuel gas – 85% of homes are heated by gas.

To achieve the UK’s 2050 net zero target the overwhelming majority of buildings and homes in the UK will need low carbon solutions by 2050.  The UK Government’s ambition is to phase out the installation of gas boilers by 2035.

Aside from the urgency of fighting climate change weaning ourselves off fossil fuels makes good sense for our energy security.  In the past the UK has had too heavy a reliance on sourcing energy from volatile regions of the world which means unpredictable supply of fuel and unstable prices.  Increasing our use of renewable energy generated in the UK helps to insulate us from the unpredictable fossil fuel market.
